Robert Bly Perpetrator

All right!
So I must make a correction, everyone! The former post about the "celebrity ego" had some mis-information. My source just found out yesterday--after meeting aand shaking the hand of the REAL Robert Bly--that the pendejo from the other night most definitely was NOT Robert Bly.
The true Robert Bly, from last night at the Guthry(sp?), was extremely warm and bubbly... Sam (who met Bly) said something to the sort of he was the most "star struck" he has ever been...

Clear the Bly name--he's great--he translates for Antonio Machado for God's sake!!

givin blood.

Today was time number two!
--The second time I have been able to give blood!
By the way, Memorial Blood Center staff is awesome. If you want to have some good conversation, and not to mention food and beverage, while your getting "de-blooded," then they are the people to be around!
Heck, when I almost passed out after getting up (yes...I should have waited longer...), I got a couple of cold wash clothes put on me and was served apple juice--with a straw! I mean jeez--that's some royal treatment right there for them having to be there in the East Commons room all day.
Anywho... I'm sure they'll be comin again before school ends so get there if ya can!

Watchin a replenishing with the girls~

"My Big Fat Greek Wedding" helped stir up some good emotions among two of the girl friends and I tonight... we were comfy-ed up by putting on the pj's, making sugar-y (EXTRA powdered sugar...and extra chocolate) "puppy chow", which consequentially gave me a headache.
After realizing how much the movie was making us laugh, we came to a strong conclusion that other cultures, especially the Greek culture--rocks!! Listening to the main character's dad's accent did nothing but make you have an appreciative smile on your face.
Decision of the night--marry, if one chooses to do so, into a "cultural" family.

The Celebrity Ego

Robert Bly, infamous Minnesotan playwright, poet, and adapter--came across a friend of mine this evening, this friend being Sam Spafford... Unfortunately the hopes of Spafford came crashing down, swept away by the realization that celebrities are not worth the hype...at least not the hype that was once building up this evening.
So what did happen to skew this view of Bly, you ask? Well, Sam, staring in admiration at Bly's presence, was approached by Bly with "this cross attitude." Demanding his jacket, Bly ultimately ruined Spafford's view of all celebrities--for eternity.

Hit Hard by the Espresso

After not having much caffeine for some time, the double-shot americano--add honey + nutmeg--[which was delicious, by the way] just rubbed the head the wrong way... for a few hours now I've had a lingering head ache...uff is all I've got to say to that.
I guess the green tea I gulped down before the americano may have contributed a bit, too.
But working out in the good old Kennedy Center helped me to feel a bit better!
Haha, especially because a buddy, Edward Matchett, was in there with me for a bit--Let me tell you, I had no idea the speed I could power walk at until tonight.
Literally, it was like that commercial with the dude being tested on the treadmill [I know, that's a little vague. I'm sure some people get what I'm referring to...] Jay got goin' too... I don't think I have ever seen a young man's hips try to keep up with his legs at that speed... It must've been that extra vertebrae, eh Jay?!
;P

Cub Foods

I'm not sure if I've written about this before... but here goes~~

So I have decided that Cub Foods is the best grocery store I have ever experienced.
punto.
Last night, after my flamenco class, my friend Jessie and I went to Cub to get some yogurt and [100%--gotta get the real stuff] cranberry juice.
While there, you are surrounding by a bunch of different people all speaking different languages, you are encompassed by a vast amount of different ethnic foods, and Jessie and I were pretending we were French!
Ha!--But, I guess I'd say it was more Jessie--because I'm a spanish-speaker here people! But she was practicing because today she'll be teaching a French Lab---
That is what's so GREAT about Augsburg, no!? Jessie is a first-year and has ALREADY gotten the opportunity to be teaching people who are up to the senior level!

Woohooo!!!
Shop at Cub--Get an experience!

Saturday Night Escapade to the Hospital

Thank God for good, quality friends... Friends that'll even walk with you outside on one of the most freezing nights--to the U campus, waiting outside for over a half hour...only to find out the U's Campus Connector bus is on break...then being confused over where the H we are actually going... Furthermore waiting on the 9th floor's waiting area for quite the amount of time...only to have their beloved (me;) friend come back out not remembering what the heck the doctor told me was wrong with my eye.

This was Saturday night. We have pictures. --Maybe I will post them just to give you all a sense of the utter humor, tension, frustration, and love that was all occurring throughout these extravaganzas of our little "Saturday night excursion."

It also must be said that our buddy, Al, is awesome for coming to "rescue" us from being out in the cold another time. Yes, upon our plea, Al went out in the cold to pick up his friends (us)...Love ya man!

Uffda.

You Could Find me Friday Night at Loring~

Salsa dancing at Loring Pasta Bar, Friday night, was the place to be. The amount of people that we had initially planned on going significantly diminished--but it turned out aaaall right!
Juve, Mama Nats, Beth, Ulises, and I went--in the FREEZING weather. I mean, literally, it must have been one of the COLDEST nights I had experienced in SUCH a long time.
And forgetting my ID in the car wasn't a help either. Luckily I had the arm of Ulises to hang on to, in order to not wipe out with the tacones (heels) I was wearin'... After getting one "x" put on each hand, we all decided to scope out the situation and watch the first, brave souls head out to the middle of the "dance floor."
Yes, so this year I began learning Flamenco and still continue to take classes two times a week, but Flamenco is not Salsa, sabes!
But Juve and I headed out there, with little embarrassment, and "shook around!"
;P
It was worth it! I soon swapped boys with Mama Nats and Ulises began showing me how to really move the hips--it just comes so naturally to that boy!
Later a Colombian man asked me to dance... I learned to "step out" after being spun.
By the end of the night, all the spinning got to me and I was starting to feel a little nauseous, furthermore because of the loud salsa music and whatnot... but it was well worth it and we'll be goin back!
Next time--tennnis shoes!

:).

Hard Times Cafe

So Hard Times is now open!!!...Actually it has been since a bit before finals started--i believe. But anywho, I'm goin tomorrow w/ my roommate (who is making funny noises in her sleep currently as I type---she took some hard-core NyQuil--ick)...
Tomorrow is also my first day of Spanish "Drop In" Tutoring--So head over to Cooper's Coffee Shop if you're in need of some spanish help! I'll be there!
Highlight of the day: picking up my check* Thank God for double-time over Christmas break!

What requires work can bring many detalles in the future~

Sometimes some higher-level classes can be intimidating... I felt that way a bit today---But I feel like I'll love the coursework! So I've just gotta think of it as "leisure reading," right?
Sometimes it is just the way you frame things... so I guess I will just trick myself!

U.S. Foreign Policy--- I've got ya!

...Oops... I accidently pressed "enter"

Alright, so this is a continuation of my previous "post"...

E and I are back with the other girls on the 5th floor...and fellow auggie students.
It's good.
The first thing I noticed when getting on the floor was the clean floors... ya just got the "fresh" vibes... and it smelled pretty acceptable too!

After arriving here around 12, I am now finally about to get to bed... We have been organizing our newly-arranged room for the entire afternoon and night...whew. I am ready for a break... and a workout tomorrow, now that I think of it.
I laughed with a friend over the phone when we both noted how we ate quite plentifully over break... but the good food. Ya know, the kind that you don't encounter so much at school.
...Although, I would say Augsburg's salad bar is pretty kickin... and ya gotta love the occasional Couscous!

But with a new semester comes a new room style... the room may appear to have less space, but it's feelin' more home-y and replenishing with the variety... we also have put up a rather large, home-made flag of Mexico with La Virgin de Guadalupe in the center of it... !Viva!

Night~

and we reunite~

Last-Minute Things

Why did I wait until the day before I am going to school to do all these things..???

Ay! I have to sigh at this because here I am, tired, and just really wanting to simply take a nap!
But,
there is no negative tone to this... because once I get everything
done, which actually won't be so painstakingly terrible nor hard, then
I will be ready for tonight--our family friends are coming over to fire
up the instruments and rock out to some good old folk/bluegrass music.
TheGundersons are the hosts of the night!

So... I guess I'll just have to suck it up until then and hop on the bandwagon..!

Honey Crisp Apples are... Quite Good.

How refreshing it is to hear the simple crunch of an apple.
Then, one must smile upon looking down and seeing the sappy, "love me" face of the dog--yearning for a taste.

This is the scene that I am in right now. Friend--Caits--is sitting to my right; dog--Raleigh--has his head perched up on her left leg.

What a night.
I think I'll go to HyVee and buy another bag of those Honey Crisps.
!

...Actually! Make that Midtown Foods rather than HyVee--buy local.

Kick that Habit

Do you have, or have you had, a habit that has just become so second nature that somtimes you don't even realize you're doing it until you're told?

Well, I will admit that I do; my friends have, and still continue to, help me drop this habit. I have been successful for about two and a half weeks, but then around finals, I started back up again.
What is this habit, you ask? Well, not to drop anyone's hopes, but this big habit is playing with my earlobes.
All right, so you can laugh now. But this truly has been a "problem" for me since a younger age! People even notice my fingers attached to my earlobe when they'll be talking with me or glancing at me from, say, across the classroom.
Why I do this, I do not know. But as long as I can breathe without rubbin the earlobes, then it's got to quit--I've gotta get some "lobe" control here!

P.S. ...I Love You

Movie Review of the night:
"P.S. I Love You"
This movie grabbed at the heart... And even better--the ending.
It wasn't one of those direct "fairy tale" endings you get from a lot of the Hollywood movies... Yes, I say the ending was fulfilling.

Recommended: Yes.

--I did have to smile because I did not see one male in the theater tonight--So men, get out there and get in touch with the good love vibes!!

The Bar Scene

I had to laugh last night upon hearing "I'll make an exception tonight, but they've gotta be outta here at 11."
This statement came from the owner of "Ed's No Name Bar." So to elaborate, last night E and I went with my parents to the aforementioned bar...But there was a purpose, mind you! We all went to go see our family friend and his band, "Windmills." This was an open show and we, especially I, love their music style. 11 pm ended up being the perfect time to leave, so it was all right. The bar owner, who was the only worker there that night, only asked if we were 21 after my mom lovingly asked for two "Shirly Temples" (aka Kiddy Cocktails)--aka sprite and cherry flavoring--obviously no alcohol.

This was no big deal at all; but I guess there are just laws that state that even if you're with your parents, under-agers still can't legally be in a bar past 9, in Minnesota at least.
So, last night I did get a little excited for the age of 21 to come:0P

Hiking in the Winona Bluffs

E and I finished off our "last day together" by hiking in the bluffs that surround Winona...We started off on an already established trail and then soon decided that we should go off and make our own. This was a success, but not without some sliding and melted snow on our behinds. It was awesome to reach the top of what was possible to hike and then look up further to see melted snow drops falling from the yellow sand rocks that had high, dead grass on top of them with some sporadic trees.
Plans are already being talked about for a trip to Montana some time in our Augsburg future...

Yes!!!---But Ouch...

Snowboarding was very rewarding today; my rooms and I spent 5 hours out there at Coffee Mill!...And we saw some friendly Winona faces, also:)
But snowboarding most definitely "kicked my tailbone"; I am feelin it now like never before. But when I say tailbone, I litterally mean tailbone; let me tell ya, after takin a quick break and starting on a new hill, E and I...actually I, with the body-support of E, realized that starting on a steeper downhill can be tricky...especially when your board only wants to go right and there's only a steep drop that lies in that direction.

But SNOWBOARDING IS GREAT!!And I really do want to get better! So round two will be comin up soon--Cities time!

Friday, January 4, 2008

and tomorrow it comes...

I may come home with a hurting bum tomorrow... E is here and we will be going on our snowboarding extravaganza... Coffee Mill, here we come

---I'm hoping to become actually good at this!

lo mas suerte que es posible!

Rooooms!!!!!

It seems that it has been...almost a month (which it has) since seeing and being with my roommate--the ever-so-lovely Erin Alexandra Johnson!!
But alas, she is heading down to Winona tomorrow:))) ~Where we will go see some music being played by a local artist, get a taste of the Winona Arts Center, and go cheer on the Winona State Men's Basketball Team... And life is good.
Maybe we can even get my friend, Caitlin (who works at the movie theater) to get us into the first (midnight) showing of Juno--It'll be some good time of simply doing whatever the heck we like--- E might even get me out on the slopes of Coffee Mill in Wabasha to get some snowboarding under my belt...

Later notices to come...

Aaahh Chuck...

New--from work:

"Chuck Norris has a third fist behind his mustache."

That is lovingly dedicated to my roommate and Natalie Kempf, my RA.

Let's Bring in the New Year~

New Year's Eve* (La Noche Vieja) was celebrated with a bang--this good time included me and my family's friends.
Yes, I spent that Eve with people from a bit to quite older than me--but I wouldn't have had it any other way. We had a kickin' great time listening to live music being played by my dad and his friends--the banjo, fiddle, bass, guitar, drums, and vocals were goin'--and playing Mad Gab (one of my new favorite games ever).
We had to remind ourselves that midnight was coming up...thus taking a pause from our continuous sounding out off "words" and guessing what phrases those sounds just may make up... the good lovin' noise levels were reaching high
:)

Why wait for next year to make another resolution?? Start now with 2008--- start every time you want to positively change something in your life!!

New CD to look for...

the latest by Motion City Soundtrack~

While driving to a friend's house the other night, a track by Motion City sounded over one of the local college stations. The lead's voice is unique and got me feelin good. I'm glad to hear they're back with a new one. You can definitely count on Motion City to give you a unique sound.

Signing Out...
