One more and then the byes

Tomorrow Jessie leaves... it's very surreal that summer is coming and just about to begin [in a couple days for me when I'll move out and head home]
So here is a love message to my dear lady Jessie Dearing ~ I'm missing you already.
!!!
I will miss very much having "bathroom breaks" with you and smiling at your ever-so-unique laughs and big smiles, calling you "valaylay" and just simply doing stuff around you that only you really understand
:).

Love you J.

Tomorrow: Spanish Final.

"The Year my Parents Went on Vacation"

I recommend this film so* much!

My friend and I saw it today at a theater in Edina.
It is a Brazilian film that of course is in the Portuguese language... there is also a little Yiddish, too!

But it speaks about Brazil's large past of political conflicts and continuing ethnic conflicts as well as relationships.

Tomorrow it is

First final starts tomorrow...

Bob, let this be a strong finish for me in "Liberating Letters"...!
Maybe that will be more up to me tomorrow morning when I will be forming my essays [2] and getting a delicious baked good at "Hard Times"

good study vibes~

Capitol Jay at The Varsity

Tonight my friends and I went to see our beloved buddy, Jason, at The Varsity in Dinky Town.
Jason [Jay] is in a band called Capitol Jay and I am pretty sure they have been together for almost five years...
Anyway, the show was extremely enjoyable. I was the first customer of the night to buy their CD "strangers in my house," and now I look forward to spreading its beautiful sounds to others.
So, as the band stated tonight-- If you can't buy the CD, you can download it for FREE online
!!!!

--Capitol Jay all
[PS, if you like the genre and sound of Modest Mouse, etc. you'll really get into Capitol Jay. One of the songs even had a guitar part that had a folk-sound to it:)) ]

It has Been a While

My History of US Foreign Relations class has been amazing.
This Friday we will say a bittersweet "adios" to Professor Kolnick, a man who has truly shaped my 2nd semester.
I would incredibly recommend this class for anyone interested in transforming their political, cultural, and social outlook on the world.

Since this is Professor Kolnick's last semester at Augsburg, I hope he returns... and maybe even he will come on a CGE trip!

New Augsburg movement: !!!BRING KOLNICK BACK!!!!

Congrats.

Mucho congratulations to Campus Kitchens for being nominated for the Service Award of the Year!
The CK members I have worked with this year have been wonderful and so involved and passionate in the work they do with CK and the people they interact with.

Thanks for todo*

14 Days and Counting

It was just brought to my attention at the Campus Kitchens Leadership Team Meeting tonight that we've only got 14 more days before finals begin... crazy, huh?
The other night at the Honors Banquet it was bittersweet to hear some of the seniors speak; it just made you think about how time goes and goes and furthermore how friendship connections with others during these four years really affects you.
While listening to Aaron Wells speak, I realized more the appreciation I have for others. The first year is almost done for me! How are the next years going to go..??
But I suppose that's the adventure, no?

Join us in the tent!

This weekend there is a lot goin on, let me tell you---
:))

Saturday night the Pedalers for Projects will be outside [like Matt does every night;*)] having a cook-out, jammin' to the good tunes, and kickin' it on the couch we'll be bringing out.
Staff, faculty, and students are all invited and furthermore, wanted to be there!!
This includes YOU!

Come and join the cause to raise awareness and learn about the human rights injustices that are going on specifically in the South!

Remember, this week we've got nice weather; but regardless, the more people there are in a tent, the more cushion and warmth there is!

Good stuff.

The Greenway

Today was absolutely gorgeous.
The afternoon was just calling me to be outside.
I felt pulled.

Initially I thought I would walk-it over the foot bridge to 2nd Moon Cafe. But then the idea of "comfort zones" came into my mind.
I thought, you know, why go somewhere so close to campus?

Well, after consciously making sure I wouldn't be bogged down with a backpack filled with books that, in all reality, I knew I wouldn't be able to get to, I put the cell phone on silent (it's a shame that I even had to be mindful of that) and headed off to the Greenway with John.

I am getting to know the "ways of the bikers" more ever since the Pedalers for Peace trip to New Orleans...and I am loving it entirely.
Just biking today and seeing where the Greenway can lead to was so empowering.

I know this may sound a bit odd, but that's just how enthused and enthralled I was by getting out and being active today.

Lake Calhoun was also extremely lovely.
I'm making sure that will not be the last time I go there.

Paz.

Orientation

The summer is coming fast in two ways that I've noticed today:

Signs hanging up on the bathroom walls that speak of moving out, fines for not moving out correctly, and renting those carts to help you move out

Then I've got my summer study abroad orientation tomorrow

---more to come, the library's closing!

The spanish paper that just will not end

This should not be that hard, I mean jeez, it's a paper about human rights... but in Spanish.
All right, so I can write it in English first; that's what I'm shootin' for...
But my mind is just experiencing a bit of a melt-down when it comes to this.
We are supposed to make it five pages--five substantial pages that is.
--If I could make that above word "substantial" in italics, then I would.

The problem is that the play was entirely in Spanish. Now I understand Spanish just fine. But I saw the play a little over two months ago.
Maybe I should have started writing this ensayo right after, eh?
Well, it didn't happen.

The mood is not sour right now... it is just a little... hmmm, sick of having this linger on the mind.

How do you write an argumentative SPANISH paper on something that you were not even able to fully grasp???

Well, I guess this is why I am here at college---to figure that out.

Thanks much.

Goodnight.

Sleeping outside with little sleep

Last night four supporters of "Pedalers for Projects," including me, set up camp for the fourth night in the Quad. It had rained the night prior and was pretty chilly at the time, but the word had already been put in--for one month the Pedaler Matt would be sleeping outside to promote awareness for human rights [specifically in the South]. He would be joined on these "nature nights" by any supporters who would be willing.
Thank you to Alec for the tent and to Tom for the assistance. By the time I got back outside, all was set up and it was sleepin' time... at least for a few of us. Little did I know at the hour of midnight, but I was about to be up until 5 am. The sleep was just not running my way last night.
This morning we awoke to the dropping, pattering sounds of snowflakes hitting the tent's material. It was a beautiful thing, as our friend Kenny from New Orleans would say.

So to honor the K-Man,

pitch a tent with us, pledge us to sleep outside, or simply just help spread the awareness of social justice for all!

Sleepin Out in the Quad... Night Number 1

Pedalers for Peace has got a round two coming... headed by the one and only Matt Eller, but this time with a twist... "Pedalers for Peace" has evolved to "Pedalers for Projects."

Fundraising is currently happening in order to make care packages for the people who are and have been living displaced under the Canal Street Bridge in New Orleans. Last night Matt began his month-long venture and promise of sleeping out in the Augsburg Quad... he was joined by six others, including me.
I don't think we got to sleep until around 5 am. This morning we awoke to the sounds of students getting to class. After a bit, we took the tents down...but no worries, they'll be coming up tonight!

"Pedalers for Projects" will be going back to New Orleans to work with the Protests regarding many public housing destructions, specifically that of the Saint Bernard Projects [which is right across the street from where the Pedalers for Peace lived while in NO]. They will be connecting with Kenny, a friend from that community who has been displaced from his home since Katrina, and Jay Arena [a political and social activist],other organizations such as the "Green Project" and "Hands On," and Barbara [a woman whom the Pedalers met randomly and helped in her developing home].
Pedalers for Projects will be leaving May 12 and returning the 19.

If you are interested in learning more and/or donating for this social justice cause, please contact Matt Eller at ellerm@augsburg.edu

"Campus Camp Wellstone" will be presented to the Augsburg community on April 18 [Friday] and 19 [Saturday]. Come to learn and proactively interact with official Wellstone staffers in order to learn how to effectively be a leader, organizer, and social/political activist--all according to the Wellstone philosophy.

Although Senator Wellstone is with us now in spirit, his message and dedication for positive action lives on!***Come and press on with the positive social change, work to transform yourself, advocate for social justice, and be informed!!!

Free lunch, dinner, t-shirts, and a Wellstone philosophy book will be provided.

Action at Augsburg will be in coalition the following days with Campus Camp Wellstone...more details to come---

:):)

Live it on~

Pedalers for Peace Photo Documentary

Check out a summary of the Pedalers' passages in New Orleans on AugNet! Malena, one of the Pedalers, did an awesome job narrating the majority of what went on.

Next week, the Pedalers for Peace will be having a photo documentary and reflection time in the Christensen coffee shop area-- Wednesday, April 9 from 12 to 2 pm and Thursday, April 10 from 3 to 5 pm. Following each session, the photos will thereafter be on display in the Urness/Mortenson Lobby in coalition with the "Urness Goes Green" theme.
Many of the Pedalers for Peace will be at hosting the photo documentary, giving descriptions of our New Orleans experiences and answering questions.

We'd love to share in those good vibes with you~
