Pedalers for Peace has got a round two coming... headed by the one and only Matt Eller, but this time with a twist... "Pedalers for Peace" has evolved to "Pedalers for Projects."
Fundraising is currently happening in order to make care packages for the people who are and have been living displaced under the Canal Street Bridge in New Orleans. Last night Matt began his month-long venture and promise of sleeping out in the Augsburg Quad... he was joined by six others, including me.
I don't think we got to sleep until around 5 am. This morning we awoke to the sounds of students getting to class. After a bit, we took the tents down...but no worries, they'll be coming up tonight!
"Pedalers for Projects" will be going back to New Orleans to work with the Protests regarding many public housing destructions, specifically that of the Saint Bernard Projects [which is right across the street from where the Pedalers for Peace lived while in NO]. They will be connecting with Kenny, a friend from that community who has been displaced from his home since Katrina, and Jay Arena [a political and social activist],other organizations such as the "Green Project" and "Hands On," and Barbara [a woman whom the Pedalers met randomly and helped in her developing home].
Pedalers for Projects will be leaving May 12 and returning the 19.
