Lula letting it all out.

Last week Gordon Brown was in Brasil visiting and just the day he arrived, President Lula made a public statement declaring that it is due to greedy blue-eyed, blonde-haired Westerners that Brasil is suffering from the economic crisis hoy dia.
This was a gutsy statement, although true, to make - specifically when the description fits pretty well PM Gordon Brown. Did Lula speak without thinking of the possible repercussions or do we need more people denounce publicy what is already well-known and unsaid..?

Annika! A thoughtful entry, as always.
In response to your question, I would say that, on one hand, we in the West/North should be much, MUCH more aware of our negative externalities on other areas of the world.
On the other hand, what if Lula's statement had been made by Gordon Brown, or Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso? What if either of them had said "It is due to lazy dark-eyed, curly-haired Africans that we are currently suffering from [insert issue]"?

We should speak honestly, but without double standards.
